Multiculturalism
In a way, you could think of the Sims as always being progressive. They could always have homosexual relationships and they’ve never treated one another differently based on skin color. The Sims 3: World Adventures expansion, though, really brought the concept of multiculturalism home to the Sims franchise by introducing completely formed cultures to the mix instead of just skin colors and facial features. Chinese Sims eat with chopsticks; Egyptian Sims sing location-specific folksongs; and French Sims can never seem to get enough nectar (read: wine). You could argue it’s a shallow portrayal of a real life culture, but the fact that it exists at all in the Sims is a big step toward making the series a global, culturally-relevant brand.
