Those hoping for an entirely overhauled Sims experience will be disappointed, but it’s doubtful anyone will harbour such expectations. Mysteries add some nice structure to the otherwise open-ended gameplay, but this is basically – as the name suggests – The Sims with added animals. Which, for plumbbob devotees, should be enough.

I’ll get the bad news out of the way up front. The major downside is that if you already own and have sunk hours into the lives, loves and careers of your fictional family in The Sims 3, you’ll have to start from scratch here. You can use pre-made families that EA have put together or create your own, but the console version of The Sims 3: Pets won’t let you import your old Sims 3 saved family into Appaloosa Plains. It’s a weird choice, and one likely to stick in the craw of those who already dedicated days, weeks and months to a Sim family and hoped to expand on your beloved pixel household with the new additions that Pets has to offer.

There’s well over 100 different breeds to choose from. If you purchase the game new, you’ll also be able to download ten exclusive breeds. However, instead of being actual breeds, they’re more or less “pet skins” for the current set of breeds. So if you want your Pomeranian to look like a Panda, or a German Shepard to look like a Tiger, you have that option. Once you select your breed, you’ll have most of the sliders you’d expect, but you can also create custom coats of fur and change the length of their fur as well. I was successfully able to closely replicate my three real dogs with a few minor altercations.

The Sims 3: Pets isn’t going to replace your console or PC copies, but it is a solid port for a handheld. It is a shame that you can’t continue the characters you may have created in The Sims 3, but this game will be better suited for those that weren’t burned out by the last one. It isn’t a radically different game by any means, but it is a much smoother adaptation of the series, and a solid use of the 3DS’ controls.

Ik hoef de BlackBerry gebruikers niet te vertellen wat er de laatste week allemaal aan de hand was. Maar de Belgische site The Mobile Revolution meld het volgende:
BlackBerry heeft wat goed te maken. RIM, de fabrikant van de ‘crackberries’ die vorige week massaal offline gingen, biedt klanten een vergoeding aan met een aantal betalende applicaties die straks gratis beschikbaar zijn. Binnenkort kunnen BlackBerry-gebruikers de applicaties downloaden.
En hier zit ook De Sims 3 tussen, ik heb zelf geen mobieltje, laat staan een Blackberry, dus ik weet niet onder welke voorwaarden dit allemaal gaat. Maar ik hoop dat jullie binnenkort inderdaad voor niks De Sims 3 kunnen spelen.

Op de E3 is De Sims 3 Beestenbende voor op consoles gepresenteerd achter gesloten deuren. Er is nu wel een video opgedoken van deze presentatie. Het beeld is niet best maar camera’s zijn dan ook niet toegestaan bij dit soort presentaties.

Op de E3 van dit jaar zullen veel nieuwe games worden aangekondigd, inclusief mobiele games voor iPhone en iPod Touch. Een van die nieuwe spellen voor de iPhone en iPod Touch is De Sims Middeleeuwen.
Er is nog geen informatie en beeldmateriaal maar het spel wordt zeker aangekondigd, of misschien zelfs gedemonstreerd als we het lijstje hieronder moeten geloven.
Wat wel typisch is, is dat De Sims 3 Na Middernacht en De Sims 3 Levensweg nog niet zijn aangekondigd voor de iPhone en iPod Touch. Waarschijnlijk zal Na Middernacht niet meer komen, daar is helemaal niks meer over bekend gemaakt…
EA Mobile Titles Include: Games for the iPad / iPod Touch / iPhone will include FIFA 11 Prototype, and Transformers Dark of the Moon. Just for the iPad will include Battleship, Surviving High School and Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition. The Sims Medieval and Pet Society Vacation will be for the iPhone and iPod touch only.
Chillingo Game Titles: The iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad will see games such as Blobster, Contre Jour, DrawRace 2, Feed Me Oil, Roll in the Hole and Bear Grylls: The Bear Essentials. Just so you all know, Bear Grylls will be at the press interviews on June 6 from 10:00 a.m. – Noon.
Playfish Titles: will include Monopoly Millionaires. Hope you like the upcoming list of games coming to mobile devices.
