EA UK: De Sims 3 hands-on – day 1
De Engelse Electronic Arts site heeft leden van hun forum de mogelijkheid gegeven om vragen over De Sims 3 te stellen en die zijn beantwoord.
Vandaag is De Sims 3 hands-on – day 1 online gezet: een flinke lap tekst maar met veel leuke informatie over De Sims 3.
In the open neighbourhood is it really possible to go up to houses whose occupants you don’t know and look in through their windows?
It is kind of possible. If the house is empty you can go right up to it but if it is occupied then anywhere within the lot grid you get the option to visit that family. You could maybe spy on them through a side window that is close to the edge of the lot.
How do the parties work? Are there any new parties to plan?
Parties seem easier to make a success than in The Sims 2. You can hold them at home or hire a public area to hold them in. I held one at home and one at the beach and both went well with limited input from the party host. You can also choose what time you wish the party to start and what the dress code should be.
At the times that I chose to throw these parties there were no additional options as to what kind of party they should be but they did not coincide with any milestones so this could be why.
How do you switch between families?
You can change the family that you are playing by using the Active Household button. In the information screens it does say that if you elect to change the playable family then your current ones will have their wishes and opportunities removed. Then those Sims will continue to age and live as normal while you are playing the new family

De Sims 3 ook op GDC 2009?
Volgende week vindt in San Fransisco de Game Developers Conference 2009 plaats, de belangrijkste beurs op het gebied van computer games.
Onder de sprekers is onder andere Richard Evans die hoofd kunstmatige intelligentie voor De Sims 3. Ook Will Wright zal een lezing houden maar Will is alleen nog zijdelings betrokken bij De Sims 3.
Of er dus veel nieuws over De Sims 3 van de GDC 2009 komt is nog maar de vraag. Ik hou jullie in ieder geval op de hoogte.
Nederlandstalige De Sims 3 preview op Gamespot
De nederlandse versie van Gamespot heeft een 3 pagina’s grote preview online gezet van De Sims 3.
Meestal vertalen zij de artikelen van hun Amerikaanse collega’s maar het is handig eens een preview te lezen in het Nederlands.
Een andere grote verandering is het nieuwe en verbeterde doelstellingsysteem. Je kan tot vijf van die ’traits’ voor je volwassen sim kiezen die zijn persoonlijkheid zal bepalen, hoe hij zal omgaan met andere sims, met welke andere buurtbewoners hij compatibel is en welke carrières er voor hem (of haar) openliggen.

Ook Sims 3 zal SecuRom / DRM hebben
Na hun preview van Sims 3 enkele dagen geleden (zie dit blogbericht) komt Videogamer nu met een interview met Sims 3 associate producer MJ Chun. Echt veel nieuws over het spel zelf staat er niet in.
Wel worden er nogal wat vragen beantwoord over SecuRom en DRM bij Sims 3. Na alle ophef die er rond dit onderwerp was bij de release van Spore (zie ook mijn Spore Blog) zal ook Sims 3 beveiligd worden tegen kopiëren en komt er misschien een een maximaal aantal keer dat je Sims 3 op een computer zal kunnen installeren:
VideoGamer.com: So what’s the plan for this game?
MC: So because of that we had a strong DRM thing. And then we got such good and such vocal user feedback, so now we’re getting the final pieces together. It’s not going to be the crazy, manage-18-accounts or count-the-number-of-times-you’ve-installed thing. But it is going to have copy-protection.
VideoGamer.com: So will there be limited installs?
MC: Um… [to PR] do you know the answer on that? I used to know that information, and then we changed it. EA subsequently told us there will be a press release about this in the near future. The engineers have been amazing, because to change the DRM strategy this late is something that’s asking a lot of an engineering crew who have already put a lot into it. But they were willing to be flexible, because as gamers themselves they were like, “yeah, it’s a pain in the ass”.
EA verwacht dat ook Sims 3 één van de meeste illegaal gekopieerde games gaat worden en zal daarom deze beveiligingen gaan inbouwen. MJ Chun zegt dat EA / Maxis op later tijdstip met een persbericht zal komen over SecuRom en DRM in Sims 3.
Sims 3 in One Tree Hill?
Zelf kijk ik nauwelijks TV maar op YouTube is een video opgedoken over Sims 3 in One Tree Hill.
Voor zover ik kan nagaan is deze serie ooit op Net 5 uitgezonden maar heb geen idee of deze serie in Nederland of België nog steeds wordt uitgezonden.
