Rock, Paper, Shotgun over De Sims Middeleeuwen – Piraten en Adel

Pirates and Nobles is much more likely to keep the latest and most RPG-ish installment of the aging Sims family looking fresh and young for just a bit longer (or at least, so EA hopes). In addition to the usual raft of new objects, furniture, outfits and interactions that arrive with any Sims expansion (including fetching medieval-, pirate- and noble-style makeup, which the game had lacked till now), Pirates and Nobles adds a new quest storyline featuring two rival factions (guess what they’re called), and a pair of star-crossed lovers, each hailing from the wrong side of the tracks moat docks …you know what I mean.

The Pets are not just added characters to a game, they are Sims themselves. Players will have over 100 different breeds of dogs and cats to choose from. From there, players have the ability to customize their pet in all the ways they are used to customizing their Sim. During the demo, we made a green and black, long nosed doggie. Odd? Maybe, but it does speak to the flexibility of the pet creator. Although I’d be surprised if players didn’t leave their pets in their original breed looks.

Twee nieuwe previews van De Sims Middeleeuwen: Piraten en Adel

That hasn’t stopped EA from working on an expansion for the game, however. The Pirates and Nobles pack is due out next month, and brings with it a selection of new quests, a new Kingdom Ambition and a new background plotline based on conflict between the Pirates of Aarbyville and the Nobles of Tredony. The expansion also features a new treasure hunting game mechanic, allowing players to find new items with which to equip their Hero Sims, and the ability for Sims to have pets in the form of birds such as falcons and parrots.

Something that has also been added to the expansion is the addition of little flying birds. The pirates will have the option to use parrots to help them out on their quests, whereas the nobles will have falcons to help them find treasure and solve puzzles. Of course, you will also be able to have cages for them to live in and at the moment there is no confirmation that they will be able to say, “Polly want a cracker.” Hopefully, it will not be confirmed since there is no way to translate anything into Simlish.

Another big difference between the PC version and the console version is that on PC, you will also have exotic pets like parrots and other birds. For the consoles, they will be part of a special edition that can be seen here. But its more than certain that the other pets could be download content in the future.

De Sims 3 Beestenbende: Create a Pet

De Engelstalige Gamespot heeft een kleine preview online gezet van de Create a Pet die we straks in De Sims 3 Beestenbende zullen vinden.

There are markings that you can put on your pet and then move it around the body to give it a unique pattern. Other than giving you a brush and painting your dog, you have the freedom to give your puppy those droopy ears or shave your cat. Like your sims, you can assign three traits to your pets to give them that loveable–or destructible–personality. The animations that appear when you select a trait is a good indicator of whether or not you’ll wind up with a pleasant and obedient dog, or a couch chewer.
